Matthew Young, a four-year old boy has died in a hospital after sustaining serious injuries he suffered when he was a crushed by a horse at the yard of his uncle, Alex Barr, one of Britain’s leading showjumpers.

According to a report from Flora Watkins, news editor of Horse and Hound, “the boy was standing behind the entrance of the indoor arena watching the horse” when the unfortunate incident happened.

The horse which was being loose schooled at that time stumbled and fell through the gate onto the boy. The horrific accident was witnessed by her mother, Margaret. The boy was taken to the Wishaw General Hospital but later died from the injuries.

“A postmortem examination will be held in due course to establish the exact cause of death,” said a spokesman for the Police Scotland. “However, the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The horse farm is located in Lesmahago, South Lanarshire and owned by Barr, who has won a number of titles as a showjumper.
