Freddie Prinze Jr on ‘24’ Star Kiefer Sutherland: ‘He’s the Most Unprofessional Dude’
Kiefer Sutherland was a pain to work with, according to Freddie Prinze Jr. The 38-year-old actor co-starred with the older Emmy Award winner in “24” in 2010, but he said the experience almost led him to quit showbiz.
According to Prinze, Sutherland was the “most unprofessional dude in the world” during his one-season stint at the U.S. action thriller series.
“I did ’24,’ it was terrible. I hated every moment of it,” Prinze told ABC News.
“Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That’s not me talking trash, I’d say it to his face, I think everyone that’s worked with him has said that.”
After starring in “24,” Prinze “just sort of stopped” because the experience of working with Sutherland just made him want to quit the business.
“I went and worked for Vince McMahon at the WWE for Christ’s sake and it was a crazier job than working with Kiefer,” Prinze continued, referring to the popular wrestling show.
“But at least he was cool and tall. I didn’t have to take my shoes of to do scenes with him, which they made me do. Just put the guy on an apple box or don’t hire me next time. You know I’m 6 feet and he’s 5’4.”
Sutherland is actually about 5’9”.
The feeling didn’t appear to be mutual, though. Sutherland praised Prinze in his interview with Parade in 2009, calling him a “great actor.”
He also opted for the high road in response to Prinze’s diss.
“Kiefer worked with Freddie Prinze Jr more than five years ago, and this is the first time he has heard of Freddie’s grievances,” his rep told Newsday.
“Kiefer enjoyed working with Freddie and wishes him the best.”
