The good run for the French in the men's singles division in the second round of the 2014 French Open in Roland Garros is making up for the loss of the top seeded women. Richard Gasquet has booked himself a seat in the third round despite just regaining his competitiveness after a back injury.

"Obviously playing here just carries you. It's the second time this year, and I have some experience. And with the crowd supporting you, it's great. It was packed today. It helped me find a second stamina,I have been playing for 10 years, I have gathered experience, and when you're injured for two months, it's huge already. It's awesome to be in the third round." said Gasquet

Defending champion and looking for his fifth straight Roland Garros title, Rafael Nadal dished out some lessons for emerging Austrian player Dominic Thiem. Nadal took out Thiem in straight sets on Philippe Chatrier but the 20 year old Austrian showed promise and did not just roll over for Nadal. Even the eight time French Open champion saw his potential.

"As far as his game is concerned, I think that our generation is now on the way out, like Murray, Djokovic, Ferrer, and Berdych and others, and Tsonga, as well, we have been here for a long while. A generation is walking away and others will replace us. It will not come overnight, but it will come," Nadal said.

"I think that this player has a huge potential and could be one of the ones who's going to replace us. His tennis style is really good. What he could work on is his footwork and how he moves on the court. That's all. But apart from that, I think his speed is really good, and also the way he changes directions, he serves well. I think he has a bright future ahead of him." He added.
