Lady Gaga is keeping a close eye on her health as she prevents herself from developing lupus.

Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, Gaga is not currently suffering from the disease but must pay special attention to her health so as not to fall ill. Lupus is known to cause severe damage in the skin and harm many of the body's organs.

"Lupus is in my family, it's genetic. It's funny because my mother told me the other day that my fans are worried because I did talk about the fact that I was tested for lupus. The truth is I don't have any signs or symptoms of lupus but I have tested borderline positive for the disease. As of right now, I do not have it, but I have to take good care of myself," Gaga said.

The 'Bad Romance' singer recently had a series of medical tests following the death of her aunt caused by the disease.

Although she is looking after her health, Gaga is active in a campaign to stop young homosexuals in America from being judged according to their sexuality.

"There's so many archaic things floating around in the government right now that are so misinformed and so wrong. It's very confusing. It's very confusing for young people, especially 14 year olds in high school who are getting sent home because they have T-shirts that have "gay" on it, as if gay is a curse word or somehow inappropriate. I just think that in terms of education - sexual education, political education and social education - in schools, I think it's important to be specific about civil rights and a person's worth. No person is worth any less than another human being based on their sexual orientation," the pop star told chat show host Larry King.
