Galaxy S3 Update: Samsung Revamps Outgoing Flagship, Offers S3 Mini for Free in UK
Samsung is repackaging its Galaxy S3 while giving significant discounts for its smaller sibling, the Galaxy S3 Mini, apparently to spice up interest for the gadgets as refresh of the Galaxy S series is set to arrive this week.
This is the Galaxy S4 week launch but Samsung is making sure its other products enjoy sufficient exposure as well. The S3, according to Droid Life, is getting some gentle nudge in the upgrade section.
Citing Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin as its source, the blog site reported that the S4 predecessor will be given a screen display bump up but no specifics have been offered to date.
The repackaging includes wireless charging capability, likely to keep the S3 as attractive as the Galaxy S4. It rumoured that its replacement is getting this features so Samsung may have thought it wise to extend some of the S4 come-ons to the S3.
For further enhancement, the outgoing Samsung flagship will be re-issued with a 2400mAh battery, affording more operating hours for the handset that already sold more than 40 million units worldwide.
The tweaks, however, will be limited to selected markets and it was unclear of the adjustments will also lead to price revisions, on the downward direction of course as the usual case for old smartphone models.
Yet for the S3 Mini's case, it is certain that buyers will enjoy fresh price cuts from the Android handset, courtesy of UK telco Three.
The scaled-down S3 is now up for grabs with no cost at all for UK buyers willing to avail of voice and data plans from Three. The free S3 Mini comes with monthly service fee of up to $38 (£26) depending on the plan that Three subscribers will pick.
What they get is the more affordable 4-inch S3 Mini that hums away with a processing speed of 1.0GHz on dual-core with the latest JellyBean powering up the handset.
The new price cutbacks came as Samsung is rumoured to also introduce the Galaxy S4 Mini alongside with its new flagship. Expectedly, the S4 Mini will represent the downscale version of the S4 but will certainly display better features compared to the S3 Mini.
Both phones should start selling by April, numerous blog reports said.
