Awards season is well underway and The Visual Effects Society has announced its list of nominees for the 2015 awards. For the TV series categories, HBO's hit fantasy series "Game of Thrones" leads the nominations while "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" gathered the most nods in the full-length film categories.

George R.R. Martin's fantasy drama series will be airing its fifth season this spring and has gathered five nominations for the VES Awards. The season finale for Season 4 titled "The Children" has been nominated in the category of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Photoreal/Live Action Broadcast Program. Going up against it is "Constantine; A Feast of Friends," "Hemlock Grove," "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "The Flash."

The popular series has also been nominated in the following categories: Outstanding Performance of an Animated Character in a Commercial, Broadcast Program, or Video Game for Drogon; Outstanding Created Environment in a Commercial, Broadcast Program, or Video Game for the depiction of Braavos; Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal/Live Action Broadcast Program for the "Wight Attack" and "The Watchers on The Wall."

Meanwhile, "The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" also gathered five nominations, the most notable of which is Outsanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Photoreal/Live Action Feature Motion Picture. The film's top contenders include "Interstellar," "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Maleficent" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

The two main characters of "The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" have also been nominated in the same category. The film's protagonist Caesar and its antagonist Koba will be battling it out for the Outstanding Performance of an Animated Character in a Photoreal/Live Action Feature Motion Picture award. The film was also nominated in the following categories: Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a Photoreal/Live Action Motion Media Project and Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal/Live Action Feature Motion Picture.

Meanwhile, "Big Hero 6" and "The Boxtrolls" are the animated films gunning for the most number of accolades. A complete list of nominees has been released by the Visual Effect Society website. The awarding ceremony will be held on Feb. 4 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
