‘Game of Thrones’ Film Under Discussion: Charles Dance
A “Game of Thrones” film is under discussion. English actor Charles Dance has revealed that a film based on the popular TV series and the George R.R. Martin novels behind it is a possibility.
Dance, 68, revealed to the Daily Beast there’s a discussion about a “Game of Thrones” movie adaptation. He just doesn’t know how they are going to cram the whole novel into a two-hour film.
“There’s talk of eventually trying to do a feature film, but I don’t know which of the storylines,” he said. “There’s so much to cram into a film.”
Martin himself has spoken up about the possibility of a film after the show ends in HBO, but “it all depends on how long the main series runs.”
“Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know,” he told the Hollywood Reporter in March.
The novelist also revealed that he was eyeing “Tales of Dunk and Egg” as the basis of the film. “Tales of Dunk and Egg” is a series of three prequel novellas that take place before the events of his book series “A Song of Ice and Fire.”
In the fourth season finale of the fantasy drama series, Dance’s character, Lord Tywin Lannister, met his demise at the hands of his own son Tyrion (Peter Dinklage). As Dance described Tywin’s death while sitting on the toilet, it was “pretty ignominious.”
Although Tywin is already killed, he will be back for the season five of the show, although briefly. His remains will be displayed before a procession of the knights, as how it is described in the book “A Feast of Crows.” The show’s fifth season will premiere in early 2015.
Whether or not a “Game of Thrones” film will happen, Dance will still be seen in the big screen. He has three films lined up for 2015, and another one that will be hitting the theatres this November, “The Imitation Game.”
