'Game of Thrones': Reports of spin-off series with Jon Snow debunked
Fans who are hoping for a Jon Snow spin-off series after “Game of Thrones” TV series ends will be disappointed to know that no such plans are being made by HBO at the moment. The studio’s executives have confirmed that HBO has not talked to Kit Harington about a series based on his character.
Previously, news outlets in the UK such as Express reported that Harington is currently “in talks” with the studio for a spin-off series. The new show is said to be based in Westeros and is supposed to add characters around Jon Snow.
A source familiar with the developments at the studio reportedly said that the biggest challenge for them was to make sure that the cast members don’t go on to join other projects. HBO may wait and watch, to see who lives and who dies in the remaining two seasons of the popular fantasy series, before planning any spin-off series.
However, Harington’s representatives and the representatives of the TV series have told Entertainment Weekly that there is no truth to the reports claiming a “Game of Thrones” spin-off of Jon Snow.
Programming Executive Michael Lombardo has said that any such continuation of the series will have to come from producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss. Alternatively, author George R.R. Martin could give his inputs on what the next series should be about.
The showrunners have confirmed that they are too busy with the current TV series to be thinking about a spin-off. Martin, on the other hand is open to the idea and has pointed out that there is no dearth of material for stories from Westeros or Essos.
“Game of Thrones” is the most popular TV series on HBO at the moment. A spin-off series would be the logical next move for the studio. Will Jon Snow return just after the epic conclusion of the show?
