'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Production Update – Dragons Get Bigger, Team Tests the Flames!
Production seems to have picked up pace as the "Game of Thrones" Season 4 team prepares for a bigger and grander opening for one of the most popular TV shows. The upcoming season will feature bigger dragons with stronger lungs!
Viewers have already seen the dragons' prowess, when it comes to breathing fire. But as the dragons grow up, their abilities also are set to increase. So far the dragons have been able to take on only those people who are close by.
The "Game of Thrones" Season 4 team was in Belfast to test the new system that enables the dragons to throw a flame. The equipment was in a SFX truck and the system threw 15 feet of fire through the air.
The flames were tested in short bursts and were not continuous, allowing the crew to calibrate the fire according to their needs. A total of 22 canisters and 400 litres of gas were used during the testing in just one day.
The flames burnt with a bright orange hue. Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal have different skin tones and temperaments. Their temperament should become clear in "Game of Thrones" Season 4.
The biggest strongest and one of the fastest growing dragon is Drogon, considered to be the reincarnation of Balerion the Black Dread. The dragon is named after Daenerys Targaryen's dead husband - Khal Drogo.
"Game of Thrones" Season 4 is expected to show more of Drogon. The black dragon with threatening red eyes will have an important role to play in the upcoming season, as his mother struggles to tame his aggressiveness.
Viserion is named after Daenerys Targaryen's brother Viserys Targaryen. Although he did very little but whine about his birthright and the sorry state of things he was in, Daenerys seems to remember her brother. The dragon looks majestic in cream and gold colours.
Rhaegal is named after Rhaegar Targaryen, who was killed by Robert Baratheon during his rebellion. The dragon appears in green colour, viewers have seen very little of the dragon as the competitive Drogon always seems to come into the lime light. Viewers will see more of the dragon in "Game of Thrones" Season 4.
