'Game of Thrones' Season 4 - Tyrion's Fate, House Lannister History Part 2 [REVIEW, SPOILERS]
Exciting events happen left and right in the world of "Westeros." Your favorite "Game of Thrones" characters will meet their end sooner or later, as HBO's current theme goes "Valar Mhorgulis" (all men must die). With this being said, will "Tyrion" (Peter Dinklage) kick the bucket early this season?
Tyrion's going to die already after his trial? Readers of the George R. R. Martin's books very well know that the "Imp's" "time" has not yet come. If HBO will closely tie the show to what was told in the books, a Lannister family relative will be taken instead of Tyrion - something to watch out for in GOT 4x5.
Why do fans, viewers, and readers love Tyrion? Aside from what's been portrayed of Tyrion in the show, here's a little history of the man.
"All dwarves are bastards in their father's eyes." There's a reason why Tyrion's father Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance), and almost everyone looks down on this great man. First, Tywin and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) immediately hated Tyrion because Joanna Lannister, Tywin's wife, was killed during his labor. According to the "Songs" books, Tywin never smiled again after this event. Tywin's brother Kevan even said that the best part of him died when Joanna did.
In the Westerosi world and in Medieval times, being born a midget in the lowborn family has its unfortunate perks. Upon birth of such conditions, Tyrion should have been abandoned, killed, or thrown to a cliff. All thanks to being a highborn that Tyrion was allowed to live on. Being allowed to live, the highborn Lannisters feel shame for Tyrion being part of the family except for Jaime Lannister (Nicolai Coster-Waldau).
Given such an inevitable environment and treatment from everyone, Tyrion still showed great attitude towards others. A redeeming quality for his short stature is his smarts. Being a highborn and having access to thousands of books, Tyrion studied well and became knowledgeable in all sorts of things. This also made him understand different types of people, developing empathy like no one in the Lannister family has.
Tywin has taught Tyrion that nobody would love him while growing up. This is the reason why Tyrion was always involved with whores in the show. The only time a woman truly loved him was when Shae (Sibel Kekili) came to his life. Now the only love of his life is in danger and might meet an unfortunate fate soon in the next season 4 episodes.
In the show's current run, Tyrion along with the whole Lannister family will be expected to play the "Game of Thrones" harder as it's been their family's goal ever since. They have the strategy, the money, and the ardent purpose to fight for power. Tywin and Cersei, being the most power-hungry family members will do everything to secure the House Lannister name for generations to come.
