"Game of Thrones" fans can't control their enthusiasm after the official announcement of the Season 4 release date. With many new exciting TV series competing for the viewer's attention, it will be a challenge for the producers to keep up the excitement.

The TV series has faced stiff competition from long time running TV series like "Breaking Bad," "Downton Abbey" and "The Good Wife." It also lost out some of the awards because of the popular shows.

The show will be facing competition from relatively new TV shows like "House of Cards" and "Masters of Sex" at the awards in 2014. The new TV shows have received good reviews with a growing fan base.

In terms of popularity, however, "Game of Thrones" fans believe that it will be a tall order for any TV show, whether new or already running, to become more popular at least in the short term.

"Game of Thrones" fans believe that even the star power of veteran actors like Kevin Spacey in "House of Cards" and James Spader in "The Blacklist" et al will not be able to outshine the show in terms of popularity.

But there are some concerns for the producers of "Game of Thrones." The spectacular deaths and unexpected twists have kept the viewers hooked to the show so far. But with viewers' expectation now adjusting to see a major death every season, the producers should ask whether the shock value of the show may start to diminish from Season 4.

The show has an elaborate setting of an imaginary world of Westeros with multiple plots running simultaneously. This allows the writer enough room to kill major characters and still not run out of room to keep the story going.

"Game of Thrones" Season 4 will be introducing a few new characters, including Oberyn Martell, the Prince of Dorne also known as the "Red Viper" and Mace Tyrell. The dragons will be bigger and the battles are the biggest so far.

"Game of Thrones" story still may have a lot that can keep the viewers engaged beyond Season 4, which will premiere on April 6. For instance, viewers have still not seen what exactly is going beyond "The Wall" and who or what exactly is the great evil that is set to descend upon the Seven Kingdoms. Will the show keep the viewers excited or will the upcoming season see some fatigue for the first time?
