Lord Varys maybe in a difficult position but will still play an important role in "Game of Thrones" Season 5. Choosing to be behind the scenes all the time, Varys is also known as the "Master of Whisperers." Here is the background story of the character. [Spoiler Alert.]

The following spoilers are based on the book "A Dance with Dragons," written by George R. R. Martin. The TV series "Game of Thrones" is based on the novels written by the author. The producers of the show may deviate a little from the storyline in the books, as they have done in the past.

Lord Varys is on the way to the city of Pentos to meet his friend Illyrio Mopatis. Fans of the series who have been following the show will remember seeing the character in season 1, when he hosted Viserys Targaryen and his sister Daenerys at his home.

The story of Varys is told by Illyrio Mopatis in the book "A Dance with Dragons." Varys met Illyrio in the city of Myr. He was known as the prince of thieves in the city. He would sleep in the sewers and by night he would go about stealing.

Varys and Illyrio had to leave for Pentos after a rival thief reported him. It is here that Varys started developing his network of spies. Readers may remember him referring to his spies as "little birds" in "Game of Thrones."

Back in Pentos he called his spies "Mice." He would train orphan boys and young girls to climb walls and go down chimneys. He latter had them steal letters and ledgers but put them back where they found them. Information in these letters was more valuable than gold and Jewells. Varys will put these spies to good use once again in "Game of Thrones" Season 5.

Production is currently ongoing for "Game of Thrones" Season 5. The producers have cast many new actors for the upcoming season. The new characters that readers can expect to see are Doran Martel, Trystane Martell, Myrcella Baratheon, Areo Hotah, Yezzan, Nymeria Sand, Tyene Sand, Obara Sand and High Sparrow.
