‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5 Spoilers: Lord Varys Will Be 'Prepared To Declare His Allegiance'
Conleth Hill, the actor who plays Lord Varys, talked about his role in “Game of Thrones” Season 5. The actor gave some insight about his character and talked about what it means for the character to declare his allegiance, as seen in the trailer below. [Warning: Spoiler Alert!]
The first full trailer of “Game of Thrones” Season 5 showed Lord Varys telling Tyrion to help someone win the Iron Throne. Conleth Hill spoke to Vulture about what that means, given the history of the character.
According to the actor, Lord Varys will be “less guarded” in the upcoming season and will be “prepared to declare his allegiance.” The actor did not reveal the name of the character who will be supported by Lord Varys in the upcoming season. However, according to the books written by George R. R. Martin, on which the TV show is based, he will be supporting Daenerys Targaryen.
Fans of the franchise who have been following the TV series from the beginning may be wondering why Lord Varys sent an assassin to kill Daenerys in one of the previous seasons. The actor reportedly answered this question by saying that Lord Varys was simply following orders and said that more information regarding this aspect may be revealed in future episodes of “Game of Thrones.”
When asked to choose a suitable candidate for the Iron Throne, the actor chose Samwell Tarly. Samwell is one of the members of the Night’s Watch and a close friend of Jon Snow. Conleth Hill reportedly said that the humble nature of the character makes him well-suited to rule. However, the trailer of “Game of Thrones” Season 5 showed that Lord Varys is supporting someone with the right family name and someone who can be loved by the people.
The actor said that Lord Varys and Tyrion Lannister are both outcasts and this is one of the reasons why the two characters are friends. The ridicule that the two characters face in the TV show is said to be the one thing that they have in common.
“Game of Thrones” Season 5 is set to premiere on April 12. Conleth Hill did not specify whether Lord Varys will be accompanying Tyrion Lannister to Essos, but he said that the books and the TV series are two different storylines.
