'Game Of Thrones' Season 5 Spoilers: What Is The Faith Of Seven And Why It’s Important This Time
The producers of “Game of Thrones” Season 5 have shared details about the Faith of the Seven. The religion and its followers will play a significant role in the upcoming season. Fans of the franchise are eagerly waiting for the premiere episode to air on April 12. [Spoiler alert]
Readers who have watched the previous episodes of “Game of Thrones” may have heard references to the Faith of the Seven and some of its gods, the religion is one of the most widely practiced in the Westeros. The producers of the show have shared this image on the official website, where details from the production set have been shared in the past.
The image shows the symbol of the Faith of the Seven, the seven pointed star, with the name and information about each of the seven gods of the religion. The Father, The Mother, The Warrior, The Maiden, The Smith, The Crone and the Stranger are the seven gods of the religion.
The male clergy men of the religion are called Septons and the female clergy are called Septas. Fans of the franchise may have seen the Silent Sisters wearing the symbol of the religion and serving the wounded, in some of the previous episodes of the show. The High Septon is the most prominent figure of the religion and is seen as its head. The role of the High Septon in “Game of Thrones” Season 5 is played by Jonathan Pryce and will be known as High Sparrow in the show.
Some devotees prefer to worship one aspect of the religion over the others. Each god in the Faith of the Seven represents one aspect. The Father “sits in judgment over souls,” The Mother grants “fertility, childbirth, peace and mercy,” The Warrior offers “protection, courage and skill in battle,” The Maiden is the goddess of “innocence, love and beauty,” The Smith helps in “building, smithing, farming and other crafts,” The Crone “knows the fate of all men” and The Stranger is the god of “death.”
According to the books written by George R. R. Martin, on which the TV show is based on, the Faith of the Seven will play a significant role in “Game of Thrones” Season 5. When Cersei Lannister plans to frame Margaery Tyrell for adultery and have her punished by the High Sparrow, her plan backfires and she will have to atone for her sins instead. She will also have to allow the Faith Militants to be organised as a concession to the religion.
The Faith Militants is like a private army of the Faith of the Seven. If Cersei Lannister officially recognises them in “Game of Thrones” Season 5, it will mark the rise of the religion to become a powerful force in Westeros. The War of the Five Kings may be over, but there are many contenders to the Iron Throne looking for allies against the Lannisters.
