'Game of Thrones' Season 6: How the biggest battle on the show was filmed; Arya Stark storyboard
The battle in episode 9 of “Game of Thrones” Season 6 is being described as the “biggest battle ever” in the TV series. Details about what it took to make the episode, including the cost, have now been revealed. The producers have also released a storyboard of a scene involving Arya Stark from episode 8.
The title of the next episode is “Battle of the Bastards.” The Boltons and the Starks will fight a major battle in the next episode. They are fighting to take control of Winterfell and the entire north.
According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, 600 crew members and 500 extras were involved in the battle. The 500 extras were used as soldiers for both armies, but the visual effects team expanded this number to thousands on either side.
70 horses were used for the action sequences. Heavy rains had apparently made the soil muddy and difficult for the horses. The producers had to bring in 160 tons of gravel to facilitate smooth filming.
“Game of Thrones” Season 6 episode 9 required four camera crews and 25 stuntmen and women. Most TV episodes take 8 to 12 days to film, but this episode took 25 days. The average cost to produce each episode this season is said to be over $10 million (AU $13.52 million).
Meanwhile, the producers have released a storyboard of a scene involving Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) from episode 8. The pictures posted on Making Game of Thrones, shows the Waif (Faye Marsay) chasing Arya through the streets of Braavos.
Arya’s storyline is not expected to be featured in episode 9 of “Game of Thrones” Season 6. The major portion of the episode will focus on the battle. According to the synopsis, there will also be a bit from Meereen featured in the episode. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) will face a “choice,” according to the synopsis.
