In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress shared that fans are going to both love and hate season 6.
Williams explained that when they read their scripts, they had no idea what was going to happen. Fans of the TV show will also not know what will happen. The showrunners are no longer personally affected by criticisms, which means that they can do almost anything they want with the story and characters.
In season 5, viewers were both furious and appreciative of the unfolding story, such as her character, Arya Stark, going blind, Jon Snow being murdered by the Crows and Sansa Stark getting raped by her new husband Ramsay Bolton. She said that the show writers will interpret the books in their own way, so fans actually cannot expect the same tales as those in the books.
She explained that viewers would say after a shocking episode that they would never watch the show again, although in reality, they could never get enough of the story. Williams said that she used to get upset when the show gets criticisms, but now, she sees through it and the thought actually excites her.
The actress also said that people constantly asked her about Jon Snow’s fate, but she and the rest of the cast members stayed mum about the issue. She said that she would simply say that Jon Snow is no longer alive.
Williams explained that Arya went blind, but fans should not expect her character to be killed off soon. In “Game of Thrones,” death is the easy way out. The actress said that Arya will be around to endure more pain, like Reek. She said that Arya will be more physical in season 6. Her training has improved more on a technical and physical level after she lost her sight. She teased that there will be more action scenes for her.
“ You can see the final storylines forming. We lost a lot of people last year and that makes it really exciting. There are fewer people on Arya’s list. But there’s also fewer people to fight for the throne,” Williams said.
“Game of Thrones” Season 6 airs on HBO on Apr. 24.
