Gemma Whelan has confirmed that her character Yara Greyjoy will be returning to “Game of Thrones” Season 6. The actress also revealed that she will be filming her scenes in Northern Ireland soon.

In an interview with British Comedy Guide, Whelan spoke about some of her acting projects, including the popular fantasy TV series. The actress did not reveal much about her role and was reluctant to share even the small details about the show. She explained that all the cast members have to watch what they say about the show.

Whelan said that even mentioning the fact that she will be filming in Northern Ireland soon made her feel uneasy. She can only confirm her character’s return now because the news had already leaked online.

The actress revealed that the first thing she did after getting the script of “Game of Thrones” Season 6 was to quickly scan through the pages to see if her character was dead. “Am I dead? Am I dead? Am I dead? - it’s the first thing you look for,” she said.

Whelan also pointed out that now that the material from “A Song of ice and fire” has run out; the producers are working with author George R.R. Martin to continue the story. The author has so far not confirmed when the next book, titled “Winds of Winter”, in the series will be released. Whelan pointed out that the TV series will, however, go off tangent from the books.

A lot of the filming of the fantasy TV series has already been completed. Whelan was also reportedly involved in one of the major scenes that was filmed recently, involving the Greyjoys on the Iron Islands. [Spoiler alert]

A scene of the Kingsmoot, which is a ceremonial ritual to select the king of the Iron Islands, was filmed in the month of September. According to a report by WatchersOnTheWall, the scenes that were filmed at the Ballintoy Harbour in Northern Ireland also involved Yara Greyjoy.

“Game of Thrones” Season 6 will introduce a new character from the books called Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek). The scene filmed at Ballintoy Harbour is said to involve the crowd cheering for Euron.
