'Game of Thrones' season 8: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau teases 'shocking' ending
“Game of Thrones” season 8 will be the last of the popular fantasy TV series, at least for the current story that began in 2011. The show started with many mysteries, some of which have been resolved, but there are still unanswered questions that remain. In a recent interview, cast member Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) teased that the ending will be “shocking,” and at the same time the “massive jigsaw puzzle” will be resolved.
While the fans have been guessing about what the ending will be for the show, it is the same story with the cast members as well. It was only after the actors read the scripts for the final season that they found out what happens. Waldau is no exception. The actor said in an interview with TheWrap that he has spent the past few years guessing how the show will end.
Waldau complimented the producers and writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for doing a good job with the script of season 8. The actor said that he understood how some of the storylines unfold in the next season, but there are also some parts that were “shocking and surprising.”
There have been a few murder mystery TV series that have an ending that don’t make sense. Waldau said that “Game of Thrones” will not share the same fate as these “horrible” shows.
“Here all the pieces fit into this massive jigsaw puzzle,” Waldau said.
Talking about his character, Waldau said that Jaime felt at one point that he had Cersei’s (Lena Headey) complete trust. However, he later found out that she plotted with Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk) without taking him into confidence. There was also a brief moment where she considered having him killed. These events shocked Jaime and broke his heart, Waldau explained. The character was last seen riding north.
