Winter is coming. Fortunately, HBO is giving fans a little holiday cheer with the teaser of the highly anticipated second season of the "Game of Thrones".

Season one ended on Eddard Stark's death propelling the fictional land of Westeros into chaos and destruction.

The cunning Lannisters are now in control of the entire Westeros, and the vast North has united behind their recognized king Rob Stark, who is looking to avenge his father's death. Meanwhile, Daenerys Targaryen is biding her time for a chance at the throne - with what looks to be dragons in tow.

The new trailer runs for less than a minute, but it packs quite a punch with flashes of familiar characters and HBO's impeccable production.

"My brother left no true-born heirs by right of birth and blood. I do this day lay claim to the island throne of Westeros that all true men declare their loyalty. The iron throne is mine by right, they will bend the knee or I will destroy them," Stannis Baratheon, brother of the late King Robert, says in a chilling voiceover.

"The cold winds are rising," he finishes ominously.

This television hit is based on the best-selling fantasy novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George RR Martin.

In a series where heroes die and good men suffer, "Game of Thrones" is strangely addicting - and the ratings concur.

"You become very attached to [the characters] and you want to find out what's going to happen next, but at the same time you're very nervous about what's going to happen to them," executive producer and writer David Benioff tells Daily News in an interview earlier this year.

"Generally with good reason, because George is a savage god and he does terrible things to his characters," he adds.

The first season of "Game of Thrones" largely keeps close to the original material. If that's anything to go by, the audience can expect even more devastation and destruction on the way.
