‘Game of Thrones’ Star Emilia Clarke On Turning Down ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Role
One of the countless actresses who were considered for the role of Anastacia Steele in the blockbuster film “Fifty Shades of Grey,” Emilia Clarke finally revealed her reason for turning down the role. The “Game of Thrones” star who appeared nude on Broadway and some episodes of HBO’s epic fantasy series doesn’t want to be labelled as an actress known for her nude scenes.
"I'd done nudity before and was concerned with being labelled for doing it again," Clarke told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, March 25. “There are other women who remove items of clothing on our show, so they've kind of got my nipple count down now.”
Now focusing on her TV show and “Terminator” reboot, the 28-year-old brunette is rumoured to make $7 million by Season 7 of "Game of Thrones." The actress admitted that she is lucky that she was able to play roles outside "GOT" without fans making a comparison to her popular role as Daenerys, the Mother of Dragons.
Before Clarke landed the role of Seven Kingdom’s most powerful woman, Daenerys was reportedly played by British actress Tamzin Merchant in its pilot episode. However, for some undisclosed reason, the role went to Clarke after HBO picked up the series. In order for her to unleash her inner fierceness, Clarke prepared for her audition by studying George R.R. Martin’s novels while listening to Tupac Shakur.
Showrunner D.B. Weiss revealed that it was only her who delivered “a messianic level of intensity” out of hundreds of actresses who auditioned for the role. Based on “Game of Thrones” Season 5 trailer, Clarke’s Dany is set to develop as a leader as she works her way to claim her rightful place to the Iron Throne.
During her latest interview with Access Hollywood, the actress described Season 5 as an exciting season for Dany as “she got more fire in her belly than she’s ever had before.” She hinted that the new season is riveting and exciting for Dany that she might make some mistakes but she will make up for it at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Clarke’s other screen roles include Saskia Mayer in British Soap “Doctors,” Evelyn in 2013’s “Don Hemingway” opposite Jude Law and Sally Harris in 2012’s “Shackled.” The actress is currently in post-production for “Terminator Genisys” as she plays the female heroine Sarah Connor and Verena in “Voice from the Stone.”
