Game of Thrones Stars Nominated for the 2014 Emmy Awards

The 2014 Emmy Awards has given a resounding thumbs up to "Game of Thrones" TV show. Three actors from the popular TV show have been nominated for the prestigious awards. 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by Seth Meyers and the results will be announced on Aug 25, 2014.

Peter Dinklage has been nominated for the best supporting actor for his role as Tyrion Lannister. Lena Heady has been nominated for best supporting actress for her role as Cersei Lannister and Diana Rigg has been nominated for best guest actress for her role as Olenna Tyrell.

This is the fourth Emmy Award nomination for Peter Dinklage. All four nominations relate to "Game of Thrones." He won his first Emmy in the year 2011. The actor has also been nominated for various other awards for his role as Tyrion Lannister. The actor also won the Golden Globe in the year 2012 for the same role.

This is the first Emmy Award nomination for Lena Headey. The actress has been nominated for several other prestigious awards in the past. She has been recognised for her work in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," "Aberdeen" and "300."

Diana Rigg won an Emmy Award in 1997 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Special category. The award was for her role in "Rebecca." She has been nominated seven times for an Emmy. The actress was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 1972 for her role in "The Hospital."

Spoiler Alert - some of the important events concerning the above mentioned characters in "Game of Thrones" include Cersei Lannister losing her son Joffrey Baratheon, Tyrion Lannister standing trial for the murder of Joffrey and Olenna Tyrell as the mastermind behind Joffrey's poisoning.

"Game of Thrones" has been nominated for the best drama series along with "Breaking Bad," "Downtown Abbey," "House of Cards," "Mad Men" and "True Detective." The show has also been nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and best Directing for a Drama categories.

A relatively new entrant Netflix has posted an impressive increase in the total tally of nominations of its programs. A total of 31 nominations in 2014 Emmy Awards are from Netflix. Fans are eagerly waiting to see if their favorite actors win this year.
