Award winning graphic novelist and screenwriter, Neil Gaiman -- critically acclaimed for his works Coraline, The Sandman and Beowulf, has announced the release of his video game, Wayward Manor and just shared a teaser of the upcoming mystery adventure game through the trailer below.

The game is about a ghost figuring out who and why he was killed. The story is set in a Victorian gothic pastoral manor and extends to hundreds of years of history as the disgruntled phantom cluelessly scares away all the people who take up residence in his 1920s home. The game cast is a selection of recognizable characters like the old retired adventurer, snooty butler, buxom maid and hyperactive twins. This is the family that repeatedly disturbs his attempt to enjoy afterlife.

Wayward Manor's concept is similar to an old PC strategy game, Ghost Master, where players come up with different ways to frightens mortals from a team of paranormal creatures and ghosts. The Wayward Manor player, on the other hand, controls the protagonist ghost and discovers secret fears of the new tenants, mysteries of the house and circumstances of its death. There is a lot of twists and surprises along the way. "I don't want to give anything away but it's safe to say you were killed in the 1880s," Gaiman teased. "And you were killed for a reason."

Created by game studio The Odd Gentlemen and game publisher Moonshark, Wayward Manor will be available in PC, Mac and tablet users in December 2013. According to Gaiman, he was inspired by the British scribe's love of spooky history, fantasy and comedy. The game can be preordered online with a set of Kickstarter-like levels with rewards that range from an ordinary game copy, packages that offer tshirts to one with a dinner with Neil for $10,000.

The Odd Gentlemen created The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, a puzzle game that you play as a time-traveling pie thief. The game is available for PC and Xbox 360. The game studio also released Flea Symphony, a musical puzzle game for iOS and Slap Happy Sam's Stageshow, a multiplayer duel game on PlayStation Home.
