Gareth Bale, Not the World's Most Expensive Player According to Florentino Perez
Portuguese teammate Ronaldo still holds biggest price tag.
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez revealed that the club paid only £78 million for Bale (€91 million, USD $123 million). In relation, the cub paid more for Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo when he moved from Manchester United in 2009 which cost the club £80 million (€94 million).
In the middle of all the hype surrounding Real Madrid's tenth UEFA Champions League victory, focus is on football's superstars once again. The season has ended and the summer transfer window has begun with millions of dollars being thrown around to lure players into making their way to other teams for the next season.
Chelsea FC has already announced their deal to obtain Atlético Madrid's striker Diego Costa who was unfortunately unable to make an impact on his last game with Atlético as he was pulled out only 9 minutes into the Champions League Final.
The man who has the reputation as the most expensive player in the world however, did make a solid mark in the Champions League Final. Gareth Bale scored on the 110th minute, well into extra time to put Real Madrid ahead for the first time in the match and start an onslaught of goals to secure the victory.
Clearly, Bale was worth every penny that the Spanish giants have spent for him with his record breaking transfer fee. However, as much as Bale is proving that he is well worth his weight in gold, it turns out that he isn't actually the world's most expensive player.
Either way, both Bale and Ronaldo have proved their worth with Bale scoring the lone winning goal in Real Madrid's Copa del Rey victory against bitter rivals Barcelona and gaining the trust and hearts of millions of Real Madrid fans around the world. Cristiano Ronaldo meanwhile, scored a record-breaking 17 goals in a single Champions League season on their way to victory last Saturday.
The two have not shown any issues with each other and mesh well on the pitch unlike some other players who might end up stealing each other's thunder once brought together. The tandem on either side of the goal is a dangerous combination and the double success this year with the Copa del Rey and the Champions League can translate to even more titles next season as Real Madrid fight for a possible six trophies, the Spanish La Liga, The Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Champions League, Uefa Supercup, and the Club Word Championship.
