Gary Oldman is back to play another magical role, not as Sirius Black, but far better.Oldman will be starred as the legendary wizard, Merlin, in the upcoming movie Arthur & Lancelot.

Arthur & Lancelot written and directed by David Dobkin is set to be released on March 15 of 2013. The reinvention of this Arthurian legend is said to be wrapped around the concept of democracy where all men are created equal. With Gary Oldman rumored to be cast as Merlin, it would definitely be something to watch.

Oldman is best known for his role as Commissioner Gordon in the Batman movies and the actor is said to be the top choice for Deadline as Merlin.

After being cast as Sirius Black in the largest wizardly franchise of all time, Harry Potter, Oldman surely has all the experience to be magical and noble. Highly-acclaimed in acting, Oldman is also a sought after actor for the role as The Colonel in another coming soon movie, "Akira."

Akira, an original of Katsuhiro Otomo's manga, revolves around a secret government operation which involves testing young individuals with psychic abilities. Oldman's role is a soldier who at first appears to be the villain but is actually dedicated to protect civilians form the psychotic villain, Tetsuo.

With all the actors challenging and not to mention complex roles, it remains a question still as to why The Academy still has not given this actor an award.

However, Gary Oldman did not fall short of nominations in the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA. For his role as the deranged Sirius Black and uncle to the great Harry Potter, Oldman was nominated as best supporting actor in 2005 in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. In 1993, Oldman won the Saturn Award for best actor in the 1992 movie "Dracula."

Oldman was nominated and had also won various awards from The BAFTA, British Independent Film Awards, Cannes Film Festival and the Emmy's.

As to whether or not the rumors are true if Oldman is indeed to play the role of Merlin in Arthur & Lancelot or The Colonel in Akira, it only leads to one thing, Oldman is undoubtedly one actor whose acting should not be taken for granted.
