Gas leak from a coal seam to extend for days
A major gas leaked from a coal seam gas well in the Daandine field, a property 25 kilometers west of Dalby.
The incident transpired when the workers of Arrow Energy were preparing to put a pump into the well yesterday morning.
No company worker was injured and the company said the well has preserved
According TO a statement released by the company, ‘‘The well was uncapped in order to install the pump. Before this could occur, water and gas began to flow to surface with increasing intensity.’’
In order to stop the gas leak, engineers are now preparing to fill the well with water-based drilling muds to stem the gas leak.
Meanwhile, authorities say that it will take three days to stem the site completely.‘‘We expect the matter will likely be resolved within the next two to three days,’’ said the statement.
Mining Minister Stirling Hinchliffe expressed his confidence in Arrow Energy which is acting responsibly in the field.
"We ensure that all the regulations are in place and if there's any concern that that's not been the case or there is some failure in those we certainly need to be ready to act, but first off, we need to know the information," Hinchliffe said in a radio interview.
One of the largest integrated energy companies in Australia, Arrow Energy has five gas producing projects in the Surat and Bowen Basins and interests in three gas-fired power stations.
Arrow Energy presently provides approximately 20 per cent of Queensland’s gas and electric needs.
