Australian Model, Gemma Ward Back in 'Gatsby' Limelight
Another Australian model is making her way back to the limelight and is reported to be joining the A-list casts of Baz Luhrmann’s film, “The Great Gatsby”. Gemma Ward has reportedly bagged her first major role in F.Scott Fitzgerald’s film adaptation.
With the new role, Ward is continuing to prove some growth in her acting career since the 2008’s “The Black Balloon” and a small part in “Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” where she portrayed the character of the
Queen of the Mermaids, Tamara.
In between acting in the last three years, Ward was also featured in a couple of theater projects in Sydney. One most recent is her international stage debut, “The Ugly One” by Perth Theatre Company.
UK’s Digital Spy noted in a report that Ward is expected to play Catherine, Myrtle Buchanan sister. This is by far, Ward’s biggest film role since she began shying away from the catwalk and into some acting projects.
The move to shy away from the limelight at the runway Ward was attributing to her loss when former beau, Heath Ledger died in January 2008.
A report by IBTimes AU early this year quoted Ward as saying that there was “no one like Heath”, adding that she was grateful to meet the actor.
"I've taken a break from the media spotlight for the last few years and it was something spurred by Heath's death," Ward was quoted as telling Australia’s Sunday Telegraph by NineMSN in February this year.
The IBTimes-AU report said that both since both Ward and Ledger come from Perth, Australia, the two bonded because, she said, they were both going through some rough times at the time they met at the Big Apple.
