Unified middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin is not impressed in the upcoming bout between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Amir Khan because of the Mexican’s weight and power advantage, labelling their fight as a “business plan.”

The Canelo vs Khan bout this year has earned a lot of attention, with fans not expecting such fight would happen. However, Golovkin, who holds the IBF, IBO, and WBA middleweight belts, is not impressed of Alvarez picking Khan as an opponent on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in a fight that the undefeated Kazakh described as for business purpose only to make money.

“I think this is a business plan, a business fight,” Golovkin told Boxing Scene. “Thank you very much to HBO and my team because I bring a true fight...not just my fight but a true event.”

But according to Jeff Aranow of Boxing News 24, Golovkin could be wrong in thinking that Alvarez has the complete advantage over Khan. Aranow claimed that Khan has a chance of winning against Canelo if the Bolton welterweight comes up with a perfect game plan.

“If Golovkin had taken the time to watch some of Canelo’s past fights, he’d know that Khan does have a chance of winning this fight, and that this is almost an even fight,” Aranow wrote. “Khan is a very talented fighter that is more than capable of doing exactly what Floyd Mayweather Jr. did to Canelo three years ago in 2013.”

Golovkin is set to fight upcoming boxer Dominic Wade on Apr. 23 at the Forum in Los Angeles, California as part of the Kazakh’s voluntary title defense before he face Alvarez in September for the WBC middleweight belt. Alvarez has been insistent that his fight against Golovkin would be at a catchweight of 155 pounds, but GGG is not going to hand the Mexican redhead any weight advantage when they meet in the boxing ring.
