George Clooney and fiancée Amal Alamuddin are considering the Highclere Castle, home of TV's "Downton Abbey," as venue for their wedding.

George Clooney will wed Amal in September in Italy, reports NYdailynews. The couple are reportedly considering the venue for their wedding at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England (photo). The castle has been known since it was featured in "Downton Abbey." According to Us Weekly, the couple visited the site on May 22 for a private tour. Clooney and Amal stayed at a luxury five-star hotel in Surrey before proceeding to the castle. A source told Us Weekly that when the couple visited the castle it was closed for the public, so they were the only tourists there. Clooney reportedly took Amal for a tour in Highclere Castle because she adores the British TV drama "Downton Abbey." The "Gravity" actor befriended Hugh Bonneville, who plays Lord Crawley in "Downton Abbey," when they did the "Monuments Men" together last year. So he contacted Hugh and arranged for the private tour.

Amal Alamuddin was blown away when she saw the castle, a source told Daily Mail. Highclere Castle is a country house in the Jacobethan style and it has a park designed by Capability Brown. It stands on 1,000 acres of parkland. George apparently saw Amal's reaction upon seeing Highclere castle so he immediately made discreet inquires about having their nuptials performed there. After inquiries, George Clooney was reportedly told by staff that they would be happy to accommodate his wedding to Amal.

Highclere Castle provides wedding information on their website. Couples can use the grand Saloon as venue for their vows (photo). Guests can be accommodated for dinner and dancing in the Victorian Library (photo). According to People magazine, a wedding in Highclere Castle would cost $24,069, excluding tax.

A source told Daily Mail that George Clooney loves the idea of marrying Amal Alamuddin in Highclere castle, because it's a place where they can have a private wedding. Also, it would be a perfect venue for their wedding since it's near London where Amal and her mother reside.
