George Foreman Tells Manny Pacquiao to Go for One More Title Then Retire
Former world heavyweight champion George Foreman has an unsolicited advice for eight-division boxing title holder Manny Pacquiao. He said the Pacman, who lost two fights in a row, should just go for one more title and then hung up his gloves.
Instead of chasing Juan Manuel Marquez, who is gearing for a fifth match, or Floyd Mayweather Jr, who has too many demands, Manny should instead focus on cementing his legacy in the boxing world.
"I think he should just go back and forget all of his past opponents forget about all of his let downs, and go back and decide, 'look I want to be the champion of the world again,' without any name or any opponent or preconception of any opponent," On The Ropes Boxing Radio quoted Foreman.
He said Pacquiao would make his family and friends proud by bagging one more title and then walking away from the sport.
Foreman talks from experience, having lost to Muhammad Ali in a humiliating defeat.
"The one thing about it is, if you get defeated, especially by a knock-out, it's a physical thing that happens to you, not a whole lot of psychological disadvantages but physically you've got to heal inside," he added.
However, Manny appears bent on pursuing the fifth match with Marquez, according to his coach, Freddie Roach, who is in Macau.
"Manny wants a rematch more than anything else ... That's the fight I want. It's still the biggest fight out there," he told Filipino reporters at The Venetian Macau.
Roach said he prefers the rematch to be in Mexico where Marquez put Pacquiao to sleep on the ring.
However, Manny is focusing in the meantime on the Philippine election since he is busy campaigning as he runs for another term as representative of Sarangani province.
