George RR Martin has written a new story, but it's not for 'Winds of Winter'
George RR Martin has written a new story and will be releasing it soon, but it is not from the highly anticipated “Winds of Winter.” Instead, this new chapter that is based on Westeros will appear in “The Book of Swords” anthology, along with contributions by other authors.
Martin’s contribution to this anthology is based on the history of Westeros. The new chapter is titled “The Sons of the Dragon,” which will be one of the sixteen stories from various writers that are featured in the book.
The new story is a compilation of unused work of Martin while he was writing “The World of Ice and Fire,” which gives a lot of background information about the fantasy world that he created, Mashable reports. The new book will also read more like a history and will not have a narrative style, Martin revealed.
The story is about the two sons of Aegon the Conqueror, the first king to start the Targaryen dynasty. Of the two sons, who were completely opposite to each other, Aenys was a wise ruler while his brother Maegor was cruel.
Maegor demonstrated his cruelty while dealing with the Faith of the Seven, the dominant religion of Westeros. The religion also had a military arm known as the Faith Militants, which grew too powerful for even the Iron Throne to control. It was with great difficulty that the Targaryens were able to keep them in check.
“The Book of Swords” is currently available for preorder and will be released on Oct 10. Some of the other authors who have contributed to the book include K. J. Parker, Robin Hobb, Ken Liu, Scott Lynch, Gareth Nix and Elizabeth Bear.
Martin has still not made any announcement about finishing “Winds of Winter.” This is the penultimate novel in “A Song of Ice and Fire,” after which the author has to work on “A Dream of Spring.”
