George RR Martin jokes about 'Winds of Winter' delay
George RR Martin has once again met with his publishers in New York City. The author joked about how he is popular on the street with fans, but given that “Winds of Winter” has been delayed for a long time, security guards at the publisher’s office don’t even recognise him anymore.
While some may see the meeting as the author sharing his updates about “A Song of Ice and Fire,” it should be noted that he is currently working on different projects simultaneously. His “Wild Cards” series is being adapted to TV, and that series is also ongoing.
Martin has repeatedly said he will announce the completion of “Winds of Winter” on his blog. The author recognises that this is the most highly anticipated book by fans, despite the vast array of projects he is working on. The discussions on the comments section of his blog are invariably steered towards this subject, even though he asks fans to stay on the topic of the post.
In a previous update on the progress of the next book, Martin said he is still many months away from completion. It is difficult for the author to give a timeline of when he will finish as he tends to make changes and rewrite pages he’s not happy about.
Martin has been keenly aware that the HBO TV series was catching up to his writing quickly. However, he couldn’t meet his self-imposed deadlines, and the TV series has revealed at least some spoilers of the books.
After completing “Winds of Winter” there is still the last book in “A Song of Ice and Fire” that Martin has to write. The final book is titled “A Dream of Spring.” As the names suggest, the next book is expected to have a bleak tone, while the last book offers hope.
