George Smitherman's husband, Christopher Peloso, has been found alive.

According to police reports, Mr Peloso was breathing and was conscious. The husband of the former deputy premier of Ontario, 39, was last seen in the Bathurst Street and Davenport Road region before he had reportedly been missing since Monday. He was located on Wednesday morning at around 11 a.m. by Toronto police. According to The Globe and Mail, Mr Peloso may have been suffering from a medical condition.

Mr Smitherman has been married to Mr Peloso for the last 6 years. They also adopted two children. Mr Smitherman was a Toronto MPP for over a decade. He was the deputy premier and the health minister as well. He had left provincial politics before running for Toronto mayor in 2010. Mr Smitherman got engaged with Mr Peloso on Christmas, 2006. He was the health minister at that time. They got married in 2007 at an Elliot Lake resort.

Mr Smitherman lives with his husband in a semi-isolated house which has been put on sale for $749,000 in a listing online. On the other hand, the sign of "For Sale" was withdrawn on Tuesday evening. Mr Smitherman thanked his family and police on Twitter. He tweeted that Mr Peloso was safe and alive. Mr Peloso was admitted at TO Western Hospital, he added.

An article published on Toronto Life said that the couple had had a volatile relation before they decided to get married and settle down. Mr Peloso told the monthly publication that both of them needed to become more mature. Even though he loved Mr Smitherman, he did not think that Mr Smitherman was ready to commit.

Growing up in Sudbury, Mr Peloso attended a Catholic school where his father used to work as a teacher. Before realising his actual sexual preferences, Mr Peloso had a relation with a woman whom he impregnated when he was 19. Nevertheless, he claimed that he had fallen in love with Mr Smitherman the very first time he met him, according to Toronto Life.
