A lot of interesting news are made these days especially when it involves high profile celebrities like new mum and pop diva Beyonce Knowles.

A new type of horse fly has been named after the former member of Destiny's Child and now a mother to baby Blue Ivy Carter. The said fly which is called as Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae was named by Bryan Lessard of CSIRO.

According to Lessard himself in an article by Life Scientist, it was the golden coloured hairs found on the fly's abdomen that made him be reminded of Beyonce. From there, he decided to be more creative with the process of naming species and took advantage of the chance to show everyone that his field of work also has its own fun side.

The guidelines in giving names to new species are set by the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature. And this time, they fortunately allow to name some in honour of icons in various industries, including the entertainment industry.

The rules go much strict though on naming them such as adding a range of gender related suffixes that somehow 'Latinized' the name - hence, from Beyonce to beyonceae.

Other species that were also named after icons would be a Hyla stingi (frog) after Sting, Pachygnatha zappa (spider) after Frank Zappa, and a lot more. Even a trio of new beetles species that eat slime were named after ex-president George Bush and his work associates. There were also several wasps which took its inspiration from Star Wars.

Beyonce still has not commented on this news with a new species of insect named after her.
