‘Girl Meets World’ alum Rowan Blanchard to star in ‘A Wrinkle in Time’
“Girl Meets World” has been cancelled by Disney Channel after three seasons. Its last episode titled “Girl Meets Goodbye” has featured the biggest “Boy Meets World” cast reunion on the series to date. Amid campaigns for the show to be picked up by other networks, “Girl Meets World” lead actress Rowan Blanchard (Riley) is doing a live-action film titled “A Wrinkle in Time.”
There is no word yet on Blanchard’s specific role in the upcoming film, but she will be part of the movie version of the iconic book per Entertainment Weekly. “A Wrinkle in Time” is inspired by a 1963 novel of the same name by Madeleine L’Engle. The story follows a young girl as he looks for her missing father who is a government scientist.
The “Girl Meets World” beauty gets the chance to work alongside newcomer Storm Reid (Meg Murry). Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon will also be part of the “Wrinkle in Time” cast. All three of them will play the Mrs characters in the film, Mrs Who, Mrs Which and MrsWhatsit respectively.
Zach Galifianakis, Andre Holland, Levi Miller and Deric McCabe are also joining the upcoming film adaptation. Fans can also look forward to seeing Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in “A Wrinkle in Time.” Specific roles of the actors mentioned are yet to be officially announced.
The film is under the direction of Ava DuVernay, best known for her past works such as “13th” and “Selma.” The story follows the life of young Meg and her brother as they travel through space and time to look for their father.
In the statement, the director said L’Engle’s book is a great story with passion and power. She described the story as a cool and quirky tale of an imperfect girl on an otherworldly journey.
Aside from her role as Riley in “Girl Meets World,” Blanchard has also appeared as Rebecca Wilson in “Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World.” She won a Young Artist Award for “Best Performance in a Feature Film - Young Actress Ten and Under” for her performance in the film. Last year, she has also won a Teen Choice Award as Best Actress in a summer series for “Girl Meets World.” The show was aired in Australia through Disney Channel.
Show creator Michael Jacob has assured fans talks are ongoing for the show to be picked up for another season, but nothing is officially confirmed yet. “A Wrinkle in Time” is expected to be in US theatres on April 6, 2018. An Australian release date is yet to be announced.
