‘Girl Meets World’ cancelled by Disney; time for 'Girl Meets Goodbye'
Disney Channel has officially cancelled “Girl Meets World.” The show's writers took to Twitter on Thursday to announce the news. The final episode is titled “Girl Meets Goodbye.”
“It is with incredible pride in our work and complete sadness that things end, that I report to this wonderful audience that our show is over. I just officially got the call, and would like to thank this audience for its incredible love and loyalty. Please watch our January episodes.”
“We leave you with three incredible souvenirs of a show we couldn't be more proud of,” they continued. “As I look back I can tell you with absolute certainty—we gave you our best."
Before the official announcement, speculations about “Girl Meets World” cancellation on Disney were never-ending. Some people think that since the characters are now grown up, they should be seen doing more mature stuff, which is not so suitable for a kid-friendly network like Disney Channel.
Meanwhile, EOnline has learned that the season 3 finale will see all of the “Boy Meets World” cast members coming back for a reunion. The outlet stated that it is going to be the ultimate nostalgia party.
The season 3 finale of “Girl Meets World” now serves as the series finale. Synopsis for final episode revealed that Matthews’ family will mull over a "life-changing decision."
Cast members that will appear for the final episode of “Girl Meets World” include Eric (Will Friedle), Shawn (Rider Strong), Mr. Feeny (William Daniels), Mr. Turner (Anthony Tyler Quinn), Cory's parents (William Russ and Betsy Randle), Minkus (Lee Norris), and both Morgans (Lindsay Ridgeway and Lily Nicksay).
“Girl Meets Goodbye” is slated to air on Jan. 20 in the US. Air date for the last episode is expected to air the same day in Australia.
"We are proud that for over 70 episodes, Michael Jacobs, April Kelly and the talented creative team, cast and crew entertained viewers with an authentic and heartfelt look at navigating adolescence," Disney Channel said in a statement.
