'Girl Meets World' season 3 two-part premiere recap and review: Riley, Maya and Lucas' friendship is tested
Original air date on the Disney Channel: June 3 & 4; Next episode on June 10
“Girl Meets World returned for its third season in a two-part premiere on June 3 and 5, 2016, titled “Girl Meets High School.” The beginning episode focused on Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) and her gang stepping into high school as freshmen.
The show notably had a new introduction, which was reminiscent of the original “Boy Meets World.” The original theme song from the first two seasons remained the same and the same characters were still present for another season.
In “Girl Meets High School: Part One,” Riley, Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter), Lucas Friar (Peyton Meyer) and Farkle Minkus (Corey Fogelmanis) enrolled in the same high school, Abigail Adams.
Two new sets were added, namely the hallway and the classroom. The friends were obviously struggling in their new environment and the older people around them. It appears as if their friendship could be tested at any time. Lucas was particularly concerned that he was no longer in the position to protect his friends as easily as he did before. Eventually, the three argued about it and they resorted to the explanation that things were complicated now and they had to deal with their troubles independently.
A trio of seniors bullied the gang during their first day. Although the older students subsequently shared that they were only trying to widening the perspective of Riley and her friends, their explanation did not help the fact that their friendship was already in jeopardy. Riley took most of the blame, while Farkle also did little to aid the girls.
At one point, Maya consoled her best friend and said that people make decisions of their own and have to go away for a while.
In the meantime, Cory (Ben Savage) had trouble trying to maintain his students’ attention, which provided some comic relief to the depressing state of things among Riley and the gang.
In “Girl Meets High School: Part Two,” the friends managed to talk about their issues and reconnect. Cory gave the important lesson that the most important thing for them as friends as to be there for each other.
“Girl Meets World” Season 3 Episode 3, titled “Girl Meets Jexica,” will air on June 10 on the Disney Channel.
