'Girl Meets World' season 3 updates: Rowan Blanchard speaks out on being catcalled; third season might move to Freeform as storyline matures
“Girl Meets World” Season 3 will be a completely different world for Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) and the rest of her gang. They previously graduated from middle school and will face new challenges in high school. There are also rumors that the next season may be in Freeform.
The first two seasons aired on the Disney Channel, with storylines delving on family, school tasks and adventures with friends. However, the big change in environment will most likely require the plot to become edgier as well, which may not be suitable for regular Disney Channel viewers.
According to Carter Matt, there is already a petition to transfer the show to Freeform, which will allow more leeway for writers to include more mature content. Freeform has a platform that caters specifically to young adults and teenagers, which may be more preferable for the next season of “Girl Meets World.”
The challenge lies with the current fan base having to move to Freeform as well. Disney Channel may not also approve of releasing the show anytime soon. Overall, it is less likely that the transfer will happen.
Interview Magazine writes that the lead actress also shared her experience about being catcalled. Blanchard, 14, said that she was inspired to support feminism after she was harassed at the tender age of 12. One time while she went to watch a movie with a friend, who was 15 at the time, and was approached by an older man who asked if they needed a ride. She described that her heart sank into her stomach and that it was a very surreal moment. She became worried about having to wear skirts and her little sister who was only 10 then.
“It was such a surreal moment. Because I always see that happening in front of me; I always see girls getting catcalled. But up until that point, I hadn't experienced it,” Blanchard told Interview Magazine.
Now, Blanchard speaks out about women’s rights and works with her friends in and out of the TV industry to support feminism.
More updates and details on “Girl Meets World” Season 3 and Rowan Blanchard are expected soon.
