Glee Cast Celebrate 300th Musical Performance
Hit Show Celebrates Milestone Performance
After selling more than 35 million downloads, attaining more Billboard-topping hits than The Beatles, Elvis and James Brown and selling over 11 million albums worldwide, "Glee" has reached its 300th musical performance. The milestone song will be aired in America Nov. 15, with the Australian air-date likely to be Nov. 16.
The show has come a long way since its pilot screening back in 2009 when the first song performed was "Where is Love?" from "Oliver!", sung by Hank Saunders and Sandy Ryerson. Cast regulars Naya Rivera, Heather Morris and Amber Riley had the honor of performing the 300th number, a mix of Adele songs "Someone Like You" and "Rumor Has It". The Adele song choice came after the singer herself sent a request that Amber Riley sing one of her songs on the show.
In celebration of the 300th performance, the cast assembled to reflect on the previous 299 performances. Perhaps the most well-known of all the songs covered by the Glee cast is Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'", but the cast members had their own favorites and here's what they had to say.
Matthew Morrison who plays Will Schuester was particularly fond of the mash-up of Jill Scott's "Hate On Me" and Jordin Sparks' "No Air". Listen to Amber Riley sing "Hate On Me" in the video below.
Lea Michele who plays spotlight-hungry Rachel held a special place in her heart for the duet with Chris Colfer on the mash-up "Happy Days Are Here Again/ Happy Again" which was made famous by Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand. Listen to their faithful rendition below.
Harry Shum Jr., who plays Mike Chang has fond memories of the cast's rendition of Queen hit "Somebody to Love", as heard below.
Dynamic duo Naya Rivera and Heather Morris who play Santana Lopez and Brittany S. Pierce respectively were both big fans of "Never Going Back Again". The song was made famous by Fleetwood Mac and can be heard below.
What do you think of the cast's favorite covers? What are your favorite songs from the 300? Personally I have always been a big fan of Artie's cover of Billy Idol's "Dancing With Myself".
