For a long time, it was believed that Glee Season 5 may not have its Christmas special episode. But it turns out, the show makers planned on a surprise treat for its audience to add to the joy of the festive season and make the midseason finale special. Fox returned with Glee Season 5 Episode 8 "Previously Unaired Christmas" on Dec. 5, 2013. While going back in time for its Christmas special and midseason finale episode, the show began with the school's principal Sue Sylvester's note which tells that this episode is a segment from season 4 of the show. Glee Season 5 Episode 8 Previously Unaired Christmas: Christmas Special and Midseason Finale Recap (Spoilers)

As noted by Sue Sylvester, the episode was an unaired segment of Glee Season 4 and was aired as Xmas special for Glee Season 5.

Glee Season 5 Episode 8 "Previously Unaired Christmas" showed how desperately the New Directions members want to be part of the team recreating nativity scene in the school. The auditions for which will be held later in the week, as announced. Elsewhere, Kurt, Rachel and Santana get new jobs in a mall nearby as elves.

New Directions in McKinley- Sue reveals to Sam and Tina that she is putting up a contest wherein she will be assessing Christmas tree decorations done by the participants. She reveals that she would be glad to put New Directions in the last place in the contest. Later it turns out that Sue is impressed with the work done by New Directions in decorating the Xmas tree. But she postpones the winner announcement to the next day. Nonetheless, waiting for the announcement was worth it for the club members who are later declared winners of the contest. Nonetheless, they end up giving away their award to Becky.

Rachel, Kurt and Santana- In New York, while doing their jobs as elves in elf costumes in the local mall, the trio meet Santa who gets drunk and passes out. To substitute Santa, Santana dresses up as Mrs. Santa Claus. She tries to entertain kids and listen to kids' wishes for the Christmas. But she fails miserably at it.

Unexpectedly, Cody arrives who offers Kurt, Rachel and Satana to let him be the Santa and do their job. Kurt who recently broke up with Blaine does not hesitate in asking Cody for dinner which he eventually accepts. Cody and Kurt continue to flirt in and outside their place. The next morning, Rachel and Santana discover that they have been robbed by their guest Cody.

Recreating Nativity Scene: Auditions -After the destruction of the Nativity scene at school, New Directions decide to recreate it and take auditions for it. The results of the audition are put up the next day. They are looking out for someone who can portray the character of Virgin Mary with skills of singing.

The results are announced and Marley is chosen as the Virgin Mary. This upsets Kitty who was nominated for the role, earlier on.

Meanwhile, New Directions in an act of kindness give Kitty the opportunity to become the Virgin Mary. But, this only ends up in a conflict between Kitty and Unique for the role.

At the end of the Xmas special and midseason finale segment Glee Season 5 Episode 8 "Previously Unaired Christmas," Rachel, Santana and Kurt give a performance inside a store. They have to do this as they are in a desperate need of a new job after failing at their first job and being looted by Cody. In Ohio, New Directions perform too while recreating the living Nativity scene.

After Thursday night's Christmas and midseason finale special episode of Glee Season 5, the show will now return on Feb. 25, 2014 in a new timeslot of Tuesday nights.
