Global alternative management community Managed Funds Association (MFA) and the Boston Hedge Fund Group (BHFG) announced on Wednesday a new alliance, which makes them a formidable lobby group, especially when regulators across the globe are proposing tighter regulations into the hedge funds industry.

MFA president and CEO Richard H. Baker, said the alliance with BHFG) which boasts a membership of more than 500 senior financial, administrative, legal compliance, operations, and marketing professionals working for hedge fund managers in the Greater Boston area, is crucial to bring together key industry players and have a unified global voice.

Baker said: "MFA is excited to welcome the Boston Hedge Fund Group into the affiliation program and looks forward to establishing a solid relationship beneficial to the members of both our organizations. It remains critical that our industry come together to educate and advocate with a regionally, nationally, and globally unified voice."

Under the forged partnership, BHFG will be able to utilize MFA resources, attend events, and provide its members with a national perspective on their issues. MFA will benefit from BHFG members' views on many of the issues most important to the industry. BHFG members will first be able to take advantage of the new alliance at MFA's Forum 2010 conference on June 8th and 9th in Chicago . Forum 2010 is MFA's managed futures and global macro investment strategies conference for professionals in managed futures, hedge funds, funds of funds, and their service providers and investors.

For his part, Richard Goldman, president of BHFG and a partner at Bingham McCutchen, commended MFA's initiative in bringing regional association voices across the country together. He said BHFG members are supportive of this MFA initiative to unify the industry and to advocate issues that are crucial to the success of the sector.

"We are very much looking forward to being an active participant in MFA's affiliation program and providing our members with access to important information and networking opportunities on a national level," Goldman said.
