A conversation with a confidante revealed why Pope Benedict made the world-shocking resignation from Vatican in February.

"God told me to do it," as spoken by Pope Benedict in a report from a Rome-based catholic news agency, Zenit.

Pope Benedict explained that God delivered to him the message "not because of any type of apparition or phenomenon of that sort" but instead through a "mystical experience" he had during "a direct rapport with the Lord."

According to Zenit, the conversation between the confidante, who refused to be identified, and Pope Benedict, happened within the confines of the Mater Ecclesiae. Mater Ecclesiae is a convent within the walls of the Vatican that was renovated into a retirement home for the exclusive use of Pope Benedict.

Pope Emeritus Benedict had received few visitors in the span of six months that this conversation with the confidante was something special and holy to the ex-pope.

"During these meetings, the ex-pontiff does not comment, does not reveal secrets, does not make statements that could be understood as 'the words of the other pope,' but is as reserved as he has always been," according to the article from Zenit.

In a report from The Daily Telegraph, Vatican confirmed that the report from Zenit was true.

"The report is reliable, without a doubt, although this is not an official Vatican statement or position," said an insider from the Vatican.

However, as holy as his "mystical experience" was, Pope Benedict cannot erase speculations that he resigned due to worldly controversies that had taken Vatican to deeper pit of shame during his years.

It was during Pope Benedict's time that Vatican was subjected to numerous shocking expose - paedophiles priests, money laundering by the Vatican bank and the allegations about a powerful Vatican administration, the Curia.

It was to be recalled that Pope Benedict highlighted his poor health as his primary reason why he had to step down as leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

He said that his health "has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me."

However, observers saw that Pope Benedict was healthy and there were no hints of poor health or any other ailments.
