Gold Coast set a new world record for the most number of bikini-clad women in a parade on Sunday. The Guinness Book of Records was set by 357 women who strutted single file in two-piece beachwear.

The women, aged 15 to 65, broke the old record of 331 bikini-clad women set by Cayman Islands in June 2010. They paraded from Cavill Avenue to the Surfers Paradise beach, which spans 1.6 kilometres.

Four women were actually disqualified for being overdressed, but their number was still enough to set a new world record.

"We have beautiful beaches... we've got a great foreshore and got healthy young women and a sense of fun,' Surfers Paradise councillor Susie Douglas told the Herald Sun.
