Golden Globes: Who's Leading?
The list of nominees for the Golden Globes is out, and unlike the previous critics' events, their committee is being nicer to mainstream releases.
Buddies Ryan Gosling and George Clooney are riding high on their nominations, as well as the much-anticipated 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' movie adaptation.
Two Clooney-starring vehicles will be battling it out for the Best Motion Picture, Drama category: the political drama 'The Ides of March' and the more lauded comedy 'The Descendants.' Other titles lined up for the award include Martin Scorsese's 'Hugo', 'Moneyball', the ensemble feature 'The Help,' and Steven Spielberg's 'War Horse'.
That's not all for the grey-haired matinee bachelor; he is also listed for Best Drama Actor in 'The Descendants', plus Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for co-writing 'The Ides of March'.
Gosling will be going up against him in the same film for Best Drama Actor. If things don't work out in that category, he still has the Best Drama Actor nomination in the comedy section for 'Crazy, Stupid, Love' to hope for.
'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' got two nominations: Best Original Score, thanks to the genius of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and Best Drama Actress for the film's star, Rooney Mara.
Critics' favorite 'The Artist' plays sneakily; it leads the pack with six nods, bagging its leads Jean DuJardin and Berenice Bejo each individual nominations. 'The Descendants' and 'The Help' come next with five.
The usual suspects also popped up. Meryl Streep ('The Iron Lady') and Viola Davis ('The Help') are omnipresent on the Best Drama Actress pegs, as well as Brad Pitt ('Moneyball') and Leonardo DiCaprio ('J. Edgar'') for the Best Drama Actor category.
Not to be left behind are TV shows, which form the other half of the awards.
Seasoned shows 'Glee' and 'Modern Family' hope to maintain their footing against newbies 'Episodes', 'Enlightened' and 'New Girl' for Best Comedy Series.
For the Drama category, HBO is on a higher ground with its bets 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Game of Thrones', which are pitted against 'American Horror Story', 'Boss' and 'Homeland'.
Anxious? The complete list is out now, or audiences can wait until Jan. 15 as Ricky Gervais announces the winners.
