After an outburst in a kitchen alley, the Florrick couple acknowledges their need for each other in the political scene by standing side by side in a big public event. The final act of The Good Wife Season 6, Episode 5 is a pure media gold mine: "Alicia Florrick, then and now." Or, "Gov Peter Florrick endorses wife for state's attorney."
Before the power couple faced the press, however, a mountain of resentment exploded in a fiery argument inadvertently sparked by Finn Polmar (Matthew Goode). The idea of Finn becoming Alicia's "Will Gardner 2.0" gets clearer with this exchange of lines in The Good Wife Season 6, Episode 5:
Alicia Florrick: If I fall you'll catch me?
Finn Polmar: No, I'll be plummeting with you.
One of the main conflicts in The Good Wife Season 6, Episode 5 is that Peter hates the idea of introducing Alicia to the press after Finn announces his endorsement of his wife.
But in the final act, the governor winds up doing exactly that, even acknowledging Finn's "fine remarks." This happens after Alicia throws in his face the harsh reality that for the sake of his public image, he cannot not endorse her in this campaign.
And so Governor Peter Florrick walks up the stage, calls his wife "fair and honest," and stands by her side when it's her turn to speak. He knows the media will juxtapose this moment from photos of him and Alicia six years ago - from the pilot episode of The Good Wife.
Peter knows he will look "weak" now, as Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) puts it. But he also knows he needs Alicia to further his political ambitions. This opens more changes in The Good Wife Season 6. Alicia has often called the shots when she knows she has to put her foot down. But this time, she will be doing much more of that.
As the campaign moves forward, Steven Pasquale ("Rescue Me") is expected to show up in more The Good Wife Season 6 episodes as Alicia's campaign manager, Jonathan Elfman. Sarah Steele ("Spanglish") will also be back as Marissa Gold, the outspoken daughter of Eli Gold.
