Goodreads Unveils Best Books Of 2014
Goodreads Choice Awards for best books of 2014 list is now unveiled. The popular book lover's site has come up with the a compiled list of the best books for this year under the different categories.
The final winners are based on almost 2 million votes casted by readers across the world. Every year, the site asks its users to rate the books across 20 genres, ranging from historic to fiction. The editors first analyse 250 million new titles that were added, edited or reviewed on their site and then nominate 15 books in each category.
This year, readers also had the option of adding or nominating the books, which they felt deserve a chance but were not included in the nomination list. As listed on the website, here are the some of the best books of 2014 described by Goodreads as 'must-reads' for book lovers:
- Fiction- Landline by Rainbow Rowell:
It is the story of a TV writer trapped in a crumbling marriage, who accidentally stumbles upon a chance to talk to her husband again in his younger years, giving her a second chance to shape her life. This is the second time Rowell has won the hearts of Goodreads users. Last year, her book Eleanor & Park was chosen as the best young adult book.
- Non-Fiction- The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan
This award was posthumously as Keegan died just five days after her graduation in a car crash. The book is a collection of her essays, which she wrote for the Yale Daily News.
- History- The Romanov Sisters by Helen Rappaport:
The book is about the most photographed and talked about Royals of the 20th century, the Romanov sisters - Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia. The sisters had a tragic end in a basement at Ekaterinburg in 1918. The book is a collection of their diaries and letters to portray their lives against the backdrop of Imperial Russia.
- Business- Girl Boss by Sophia Amoruso:
The book is written by a female entrepreneur who gives pieces advice, as well as a peak inside the lives of young professional women in present times.
- Adult Fiction- We Were Liars by E. Lockhart:
The thrilling book is the tale of a family that spends every summer on a private island of Cape Cod. As per the critics, the book is able to shock the most jaded readers through its nail biting sequence and unpredictable ending.
