Cyanogen, a company known for its free, open source operating system and community built distribution of Android for smartphones and tablets, finally received Google's approval to produce the Oppo N1 phone after previously warning them in Nov. 2013 that its installer encourages phone owners to void their warranty.

Cyanogen reportedly pulled out its installer from Google Play after the said warning, but now, it looks like they're back on Google Play because of Google's blessing.

This is perfect timing for both Google and Cyanogen because Cyanogen just announced that it will release the +CyanogenMod version (Cyanogen's version of Android) of the Oppo N1 phone on Dec. 24, 2013.

Koushik Dutta, CyanogenMod developer and Vice President (VP) of Engineering at Cyanogen Inc., announced the wonderful news in his Google+ account.

"Google just approved our first CyanogenMod phone," posted Dutta in his Google+ account.

"Man, the last 24 hours has been a total rollercoaster of emotions, and it isn't letting up it seems."

"Google just approved our build for production... we're shipping the +CyanogenMod version of the N1 on Christmas Eve," added Dutta in his Google+ account.

The Oppo N1 phone will be equipped with pre-installed CyanogenMod software. Its specs include a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 Quad Core, an Adreno 320 GPU, a multi-touch, capacitive Gorilla Glass 3 screen and a 13-megapixel camera and sensor with dedicated ISP.

Meanwhile, these are its features: a 12 cm2 rear O-Touch panel that allows users to tap, scroll or take pictures without their fingers blocking the display, a 5.9-inch Full High Definition (HD) screen and the O-Click Control for operating the Oppo N1 camera remotely.

The Oppo N1 phone is sold at MobiCity for $650 and it is predicted that the version equipped with the CyanogenMod software will cost as much as that price too.

Aside from gaining Google's approval of Cyanogen Mod phone's build for production, the company also secured $US23 million in funding from its backers and partners including Benchmark, Redpoint, Andreessen Horowitz and Tencent. This will aid the company in the release of future versions of CyanogenMod, including new features and apps.
