Google Chrome Now Available in Apple's iPhone and iPad Devices
Google Chrome, the popular web browser from Google is now available for Apple devices such as iPhone and iPad devices. Apple users can now download Google Chrome for free through the App store.
Google first revealed this news through the Google I/O conference last week in San Francisco. Sundar Pichai, Google's Vice President, remarked about the availability of Google Chrome in Apple devices stating that "No matter which device you're using, we are working really hard across all important software platforms. We want to make sure it's about the user." The Google chrome for Apple devices still has the features that are usually utilized in Google Chrome such as tab sharing, password sync, and incognito mode. Aside from Google Chrome, Google Drive would be available for Apple users. Google Drive is the company's very own cloud storage service. Google has reportedly given up 60% of the advertising revenue from the mobile searches done on Apple's own browser, Safari.
The release of Google Chrome in Apple devices is considered as a good business strategy for Google especially in terms of boosting the company's profits. Though downloading Google Chrome is free for users, Google and Apple have already made a deal that Google would be sharing advertising revenue with Apple. This is in exchange for Apple having a Google search engine in the Safari mobile version. Google would need not pay commissions on revenue from the searches done through Google Chrome.
Google is not the only company who introduced a browser app for the App store. Yahoo Inc. has already released its own browser called Axis which is available for iPhone and iPad users.
Google Chrome was first introduced by Google last 2008 and soon took the crown from Internet Explorer as the most utilized web browser. Google Chrome was also the basis for the Chromebooks developed by Google. Presently, there are 310 million "active users" of Google Chrome as compared to the 160 million active users estimated last 2011.
