Day 1 of the Google I/O 2012 has already past but the revealing of the new Google products are still fresh for everyone's mind. During the conference, Google revealed the Google Nexus 7 Tablet, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and Google Glasses.

Here is a brief summary of these new features from Google:

Google Nexus 7 Tablet

Google unveiled its latest Tablet offering which is Google Nexus 7 Tablet. It was manufactured by Taiwanese-based firm Asus for Google. The Google Nexus 7 Tablet is a 7-inch tablet with 1280x800 display and weighs around 0.75 pound. It will utilize an nVidia Tegra 3 quad core processor and will have the latest Android version which Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Google Nexus 7 tablet would also have "Nexus Q" which is described as the world's first "social streaming device" which is a home entertainment device. Aside from these specifications, one of the main selling points for Google Nexus 7 tablet is its selling price which is around AU$249 for Australian consumers. It is already available for purchase through Google Play store in selected countries including Australia, Canada, Britain, and the US (US$199).

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

A year after Android ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) was revealed, a new Android OS update was revealed. The latest version is called Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It will officially debut at Google Nexus 7 Tablet and there are reports that Motorola Xoom tablets would get their updates directly from Google by mid-July. Hugo Barra from Android product management mentioned the main theme of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean stating that "we (Google) want things to be simple, beautiful, and really smart." Some of the improved features of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean includes the following:

  • Icon Arranging - This feature allows users to move apps around the screen which is similar when using an Apple device.
  • Offline Voice Typing - Users would be able to dictate their message or text even without Internet connection and the text would automatically appear on the screen. So far, it only supports the English language but it would soon be available with other languages.
  • New Audio Features - These new audio features would enable users to maximize their Android-based devices. Aside from that, people with disability like being visually impaired can use their smartphones or tablets.

The SDK for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is already available for developers through developer.android.com.

Google Glass

The Google Glass is a project developed by the company wherein a lightweight glass has a computer-processing power that has lots of features including camera, microphone, wireless communication, and much more. Presently, the Google glass can only take pictures and record video but Google is planning to develop it further like having a virtual computer in our heads. Google glass is not yet available to consumers and is still on its development stage. Despite that, a video demo of Google glass was shown during the conference which piqued the interest of all attendees.
