Google just released their second generation Nexus 7 last July 24 in San Francisco. Noting the success of the original Nexus 7, the second installment of the tablet appears to be on its way to becoming just the same hit. With the release of the new Nexus, people are now asking what this spells for the first Google tablet and other competitors like Apple's iPad mini?

Once Google unveiled the Nexus 7 2 (as many people and reports like to pertain to it), the reception was good. Reports reviewing the hardware and design of the tablet praised the tech giant for coming up with another potentially runaway winner - both in quality of products and sales.

Nexus 7 2 vs Nexus 7

The second generation Nexus features a Full HD 1920 x 1200 screen resolution. The original one has a 1280 x 800 resolution. The latest offering features 323ppi whereas the old one provides 216ppi. Google slightly changed the dimensions of the new model to 10.45mm x 198mm x 120mm. Previously, dimensions were at 7.62mm x 200mm x 114.3mm. The slight difference in weight made the new model a little heavier than the previous one, 317g compared to 330g.

If there is one primary difference between the new Nexus and the original one, it would be the hardware. ASUS Nexus 7 second-generation runs on Qualcomm 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor. Google decided to change the Nvidia because it was slower at 1.2Ghz processor. Likewise, the latest tablet offers double the RAM of the first one: 2GB instead of 1GB.

Naturally, the newest version comes with the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. It offers faster computing performance plus better battery consumption. This is essential since Google decided to stick with the 4,325mAh battery for this Nexus.

Nexus 7 s vs iPad Mini

Comparing the original version with the latest seems to justify that Google and Asus worked hard for this offering. Everything else about the newest tablet is better than the previous one - which should be natural for all manufacturers setting out to provide refreshed versions of their devices. A for Apple's iPad mini, it appears Google will be successful in its goal to outdo the tablet leader.

Apple's smaller tablet offerings a 1024 x 768 resolution with 162ppi. Nexus has twice the pixel count than the iPad. The iPad mini also has a slower processor compared to the Nexus 72. Moreover, the price difference is almost $100 making Nexus a generally more affordable high quality device. It will come down to Apple's second version of the iPad.
