Fans have already seen Google's follow-up to its very successful Nexus 4 with the Nexus 5 and second version of the Nexus 7 tablet hitting the stores just weeks ago. How about the Nexus 10 and Nexus 10 2?

Rumour has it that a Nexus 10 2 follow-up announcement is due any time now and a lot of speculations have already been going around about what specs the device will offer and who will put the whole caboodle together. To help consumers decide on whether to replace their old Nexus 10 with the new one, here's a rundown on what the online rumour mill says:

The Nexus 10 is expected to have a 10.1-inch, super PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen which displays 16 million colours and has a 299 ppi pixel density. The device has a Gorilla Glass 2 coating that protects against scratches and supports multi-touch input. On the other hand, the Nexus 10 2 is rumoured to have the exact same display, except with a very small upgrade to Gorilla Glass 3. The new Nexus 10 screen is speculated to be identical to its predecessor.

The original Nexus 10 has an Exynos 5250 chipset which is made up of a dual-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A15 processor and a Mali-T604 GPU. It has a 2 GB RAM and available with 16 or 32 GB built-in storage. Meanwhile, the Nexus 10 2 is said to have a more powerful, more up-to-date Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset that comprises of a quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 processor and Adreno 330 GPU graphics. The follow-up device is expected to have a standard 32 GB storage with a 3 GB RAM.

The first Nexus 10 comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and is ready for the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade immediately. The Nexus 10 2 is, of course, expected to be released with the updated OS, Android 4.4 KitKat, with plenty of improved features such as search functions, overhauled voice recognition and the latest version of Google's Hangouts which are all very useful.

The current Nexus 10 has a front-facing 5-MP camera with autofocus, geo-tagging, LED flash, touch focus, full 1,080P video capture at 30 frames per second and face detection. It also offers a secondary 1.9 MP camera. The Nexus 10 2, on the other hand, is expected to be released with an 8 MP camera and a 2.1 MP secondary camera for video calls.

While the Nexus 10 has a form of 263.9 x 177.6 x 8.9 mm, 603 g, the Nexus 10 2 still leaves fans guessing its weight and size. And while it is unlikely to have any huge aesthetic changes, fans want it to shrink and weigh less this time around. The Nexus 10 2 is expected to be released Q4 of 2013 for the price of $561.45.
